Academy of Finland - Support for Stem Cell Research
The Academy of Finland is one of two organisations funding stem cell research in Finland, the other being the National Technology Agency. Stem cell research is a key area for the Research Councils for Health and Biosciences and Environment at the Academy of Finland. Research and higher education concerning stem cells is funded in different ways, including through research posts, research appropriations and research programmes (more on this below).
In addition, the Academy of Finland supports the graduate schools nominated by the Ministry of Education. It does so by funding researcher training positions and courses, as well as domestic and foreign travel by doctoral students. The Academy aims to raise the quality of education and to speed up doctoral studies, and is particularly keen to promote international cooperation in postdoctoral research.
